The HP Pavilion DV2-1030US - Ah! This laptop has the perfect combination of power and portability. I once had the MSI Wind Notebook. It was a great little computer, but its 1024x600 resolution was just too small for many programs

So I told myself - my next laptop would be extremely portable, with at least a  720 pixel minimum size for my resolution along with a good graphics and video card. I had a laptop close to that - the Dell laptop with 7 inches that has an Nvidia 7900m Go Graphics Card. I used it as my portable gaming laptop, but the size and weight was just too much.

I had to find the laptop that's not too bulky but would also meet my other demands, and I've found it all in the HP Pavilion DV2-1030US.

The HP Pavilion: A Bright New Future

- First and foremost, it has a separate (NOT built in) video card from ATI - the ATI 3410 512 MB. This allows me to play TF2, City Of Heroes, and Warcraft III Frozen Throne. It's an amazing video and graphics card for a laptop. While the Pavilion won't be replacing any gaming laptops, its video card is far more than enough for any portable and light gaming needs.

- As for the screen size, the 1280x800 pixel resolution is pretty solid. It's a breath of fresh air from the 1024x600 pixel, which as I have mentioned is a headache for the applications, programs, and games that I use. If you're going to be watching lots of movies, the screen resolution that the HP Pavilion G60-230US offers is vastly improved.

The HP Pavilion: A Slim Form Factor

- It comes with a Windows Vista Home Premium edition and  4 GB of RAM, which rivals even the high end desktops out there. The screen is also very clear; the colors are crisp and vivid. As for the weight, it's just right! It's lightweight at 3.8 pounds. Even with its high-octane video card, the battery life is perfectly fine.

Now, the HP Pavilion DV2-1030US is not without complaints from other computer and laptop users. Here's my take on some of them...

Complaint 1

Yes, it does run hot. However, my HP Pavilion DV2-1030US only ran hot after I played a game for 8 hours non stop! When it did, it wouldn't come down for quite a long time. To fix it, in my opinion, tweaking the Bios upgrades should help a lot.

Complaint 2

Point 2 isn't really a complaint, BUT I wish it was a Dual Core. However, with that being said, I must point out that it works perfectly fine when it comes to running office programs and applications, surf the internet, email, and it's perfectly fine when it comes to gaming too. The last point, though, is largely dependent on the game's title and hardware demands.

Those are the only 2 things that I can complain about with HP Pavilion DV2-1030US. It's not really a complaint BUT some points and rooms for improvement. Overall, the HP Pavilion DV2-1030US is a great laptop.
