The HP Pavilion DV2-1030US - Ah! This laptop definitely hit the sweet spot in my opinion. I had a notebook - which is the MSI Wind. I never had any problems with it, and I think it was great. However, the resolution of the MSI Wind, which is 1024x600 screen size, has been a regular issue for me. A lot of applications and programs are not happy with the screen size.

So I told myself - my next laptop would be extremely portable, but I need a 720 pixel minimum size for my resolution along with a good but discreet graphics and video card. I had a laptop close to that - the Dell laptop with 7 inches that has an Nvidia 7900m Go Graphics Card. I used it as my portable gaming laptop, BUT the size as well as the weight of this laptop was too much for me. I had to find the laptop that's not too bulky BUT meets my other demands. And I've found it with the HP Pavilion DV2-1030US.

So what does the HP Pavilion DV2-1030US have? Check these out...

- First and foremost, it has a separate (NOT built in) video card from ATI - the ATI 3410 512 MB. This allows me to play TF2, City Of Heroes, and Warcraft III Frozen Throne. It's a good enough video and graphics card for a laptop...BUT get this - it's not strong enough to replace a real and true blue gaming laptop. However, this is more than enough for my portable and light gaming needs.

- As for the screen size, the 1280x800 pixel resolution is pretty solid. It's a breath of fresh air from the 1024x600 pixel, which as I have mentioned is a headache for the applications, programs, and games that I use.

- It comes with a Windows Vista Home Premium edition as its Operating System, a 4 GB RAM, which can rival even the high end desktops out there (in the RAM department that is). The screen is also very clear. As for the weight, it's just right! It's lightweight at 3.8 pounds. And with an intense video card, I must say that the battery life is just fine.

Now, the HP Pavilion DV2-1030US is not without complaints from other computer and laptop users. Here's my take on some of them...

Complaint 1

Yes, it does run hot. However, my HP Pavilion DV2-1030US didn't...and it only did after I played a game for 8 hours non stop! When it did, it wouldn't come down for quite a long time. To fix it, in my opinion, tweaking the Bios upgrades should help a lot. Along with that, getting a laptop cooler shouldn't also hurt in the long run.

Complaint 2

Point 2 isn't really a complaint, BUT I wish it was a Dual Core. However, with that being said, I must point out that it works perfectly fine when it comes to running office programs and applications, surf the internet, email, and it's perfectly fine when it comes to gaming too. The last point, though, is largely dependent on the game's title and hardware demands.

Those are the only 2 things that I can complain about with HP Pavilion DV2-1030US. It's not really a complaint BUT some points and rooms for improvement. Overall, the HP Pavilion DV2-1030US is a great laptop in my opinion.
