With a very friendly price of $350, the Toshiba L305-S5955 is a must buy, right? Think about it – about 5 years ago, decent television sets are more expensive than that! BUT before deciding whether to grab the Toshiba L305-S5955 or not, we must first ask the question – what am I getting for $350…for the Toshiba L305-S5955? Is it worth it? Together, let’s answer that question.
Coming with a 160 GB hard drive, with only 2 GB of RAM compared to its predecessors 3 GB, as well as an Intel Celeron 900 processor for half the cost compared to its predecessor – the L305 S5875 that has a 1.86 GHz Pentium Dual Core processor, the Toshiba L305-S5955 has the guts of a netbook which is sheltered in a laptop that has a 15.4 inch body. With such specifications, the Toshiba L305-S5955 is good enough for basic tasks like emailing, viewing media (videos and slides), playing music, and other simple tasks. However, if you’re looking for a laptop that can multitask and do heavy gaming, sorry folks but this laptop isn’t it.
If that is the case, you may ask – why not get a Netbook instead? Well, it all depends…if a large screen and keyboard is a big deal for you. You see, Netbooks are more portable than usual laptops and notebooks. And the processor that they have doesn’t perform better or worse than the Celeron processor that the Toshiba L305-S5955 has. Get this though – many of today’s Netbooks have compromised keyboard and screen sizes which many power users may find too limiting. Along with that, the Toshiba L305-S5955 runs on Windows Vista as opposed to XP which is the operating system of choice with many Netbooks today.
The Toshiba L305-S5955 could hardly be confused for a Netbook from the outside. But here’s something to take note of – the Toshiba L305-S5955 is one of the beefier and better non gaming laptops out there. The blue gray exterior maybe prone to fingerprint smears, however the plastic feeling lid is very solid compared to other laptops. Along with that, this laptop comes with a 15.4 inch TFT LCD glossy screen that has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. This resolution is pretty standard with inexpensive mainstream laptops. The screen’s display is pretty shard when playing videos and games. It may not be a 16×9 screen. But then again, the Toshiba L305-S5955 is not the sort of machine you’ll buy for HD video viewing.
The bottom line – if you’re looking for a laptop or notebook that can do all of the basic stuff and tasks, and at a price that won’t bore a hole in your pocket, then the Toshiba L305-S5955 is yours for the taking.
